Weddings and Honeymoons

La Romana is increasingly becoming a favourite destination for marriage ceremonies

Wedding & Honeymoon Ideas
  • Arrive at your destination a few days before so you can relax and get a beautiful tan.
  • Relax with a hotel massage and de-stress for the wedding.
  • Choose wedding attire that reflects the hotter Dominican weather; sleeveless gowns are best and mens suits are often replaced with khakis. Most hotels will be able to steam press your wedding attire upon arrival.
  • Exotic tropical flowers, a horse drawn carriage or a musical serenade are all things to consider when planning your special day.

For a marriage to be authorized. the bride and groom must bring a notarized statement attesting to their marital status and certified in the Dominican consulate in their country of origin. If either has been previously married, they must bring a legalized copy of the divorce decree, as well as their valid passports and those of any accomanying foreign witnesses. Keep in mind that all documents must be translated into Spanish upon arrival in the Dominican Republic. It is advised that all requests should be confirmed at the time of your hotel reservations.

A Religious marriage has the same legal implications as a Civil marriage. In a Religious marriage, the Parish Priest or Rabi must send a copy of the marriage documentation to the Oficialia del Estado Civil within three days of the marriage, so that it may be registered. If a Civil marriage has been performed prior to the Religious Ceremony, the Parish Priest or Rabi must still send a copy of this documentation to be registered. The Oficialia del Estado Civil will then issue you a Marriage Certificate that will be legal anywhere in the world.
