The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Environment honored the La Romana/Bayahibe Hotel Association. The recognition was a tribute to the Association for its commitment to the conservation, sustainability, and human development of communities in the Bayahibe area.

The Association works closely with the community and in October 2004 La Laguna Beach became the first beach in the Caribbean to hoist the prestigious Blue Flag under the Caribbean Blue Flag Campaign. The La Romana/Bayahibe Hotel Association has been a strong advocate and defender for conserving the natural resources of the Parque Nacional del Este.

The Association has maintained that environmental good practices in the hotel industry "is neither a luxury nor a cost." On the contrary, they see this as "an investment in sustainability and competitiveness for the modern tourism industry, and thus their commitment to the environment and human development in the area."
