Mooring Buoys

The Romana Bayahibe Hotel Association has placed a series of 17 mooring buoys throughout different dive sites of Bayahibe and Parque Nacional del Este. These have been installed for the benefit of all users but mainly for the conservation of our coral reefs. It is fundamental that these be used according to the following instructions:

The purpose of the buoys:

  • Boats use these to tie their ropes in place of dropping their anchors, thereby avoiding the destruction of the delicate coral reefs.
  • To promote scuba diving as a submarine park activity.
  • To facilitate the location of these dive sites during the daytime as well as at night.
  • To mark the sites that are of special interest.

How to use the mooring buoys:

  • Approach the buoys slowly and against the tide or wind.
  • Small vessels should be tied one to the other, or from largest to smallest.
  • All users should tie their boats by using a rope from their boat to the rope of the buoy. If you notice that after tying your boat to the buoy the latter sinks, it is necessary to add a length of rope to the boat.
  • Once tied, make certain it is secure. You are still responsible for your vessel.
  • Sailboats must not have their sails unfurled when tied to the buoys.

Care of the mooring buoys:

  • Tie a rope from the boat to the rope of the buoy, never the rope from the buoy to the boat.
  • Try to keep the boat engine in neutral or switched off while you are in the process of tying up to the buoy and not accelerate or reverse until you are certain that the vessel is free and at a correct distance from the rope of the buoy.
  • Always avoid sailing above the buoys.Never scratch or hit the buoys.
