La Romana has always been synonymous with world class golf courses. It has been the chosen golf destination for former president Bill Clinton and George Bush, as well as a host of celebrities. Pete Dye is considered to be one of the most influential course architects in the world. His designs are known for distinctive features, including the use of railroad ties to hold bunkers and small greens. In 2005, Dye became the sixth recipient of the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award.
Links The second course designed by Pete Dye at Casa de Campo in La Romana opened in 1975 and has been compared to traditional British and Scottish courses. Several lagoons and lakes with wading birds among tall bahia grass and sand traps set the scene. There are five holes where water makes this course an exceptional challenge. Par: 72 Dye Fore The newest course and the third by Pete Dye to open at the luxurious Casa de Campo resort in La Romana, the Dye Fore runs parallel with the Chavon River and affords the viewer with breathtaking vistas of the mountains to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. The course itself is expansive measuring a long 7,770 feet with fairways 200-feet wide. Although visually intimidating, the course is very playable and golfers have been raving this newest of golf courses. Par: 72 Teeth of the Dog Consistently ranked by golf experts as one of the top 50 courses in the world, Teeth of the Dog is located at Casa de Campo resort in La Romana. The course features seven oceanfront holes, four on the front nine and three on the back, and is considered extra challenging due to the sea breezes and airstrip. Par: 72 |
