Padre Nuestro Ecotouristic and Archeological Trail

Be part of the most distinguished tourist attraction in La Romana.

Take a guided tour through Parque Nacional del Este and experience a dry tropical forest, a landscape of limestone, butterflies and birds, as well as impressive underground fresh water caverns. 

The Padre Nuestro archaeological and eco-tourism route will lead you through the forest, gazing through a brief history of its forefatherz, its still-evolving geology dating from million years back. Throughout the tour you will come to explore remains of the foundations from huts of the first inhabitants to the area, awe-inspiring native flora and fauna only found on the Eastern coastline of the Hispaniola, in addition to visiting freshwater springs secluded inside caves, where rock-art samples dating back from pre-Columbian era lie.

The main spring, named Cueva de Chicho is composed of a large cave at the bottom of a stunning underground lake. Used as a water supply since pre-Hispanic times, a significant collection of large ceramic artifiacts, mostly remnants and perhaps a complete collection, remain of the era. A total of  26 petroglyphs, were found at the entrance of the cave, the first group on the front wall facing the entrance.

Padre Nuestro is located within the area of Parque Nacional del Este in the vicinity of Bayahibe, 10 minutes away from the Dominicus resort area.
Guided tours are offered daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The trail has different pathways, ranging in difficulty along its 1.9 km. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended.

Cave diving is allowed at Chico Cave, becoming the ideal place to learn and practicing the sport. Guided dives by expert instructors are required. The price for admission is RD$ 300.00, and requires prior permission from the administration of Parque Nacional del Este.
