Catalinita Island, one of the most hidden corners of the Dominican Republic and the beautiful National Park of the East nature reserve.

 

Of beautiful white sands this island is near the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic, is a protected natural park where, of course, there are no buildings.

Situated in the Catuano channel, opposite Saona Island. Despite its diminished physical space, the natural beauty is multiplied exponentially due to the splendor of its magnificent beaches and attractive sandbars creating the environment and allowing excursions to become unforgettable.catalinta

Huge deposits of conch shells (Strombus gigas), can be found, left there by the Tainos over a thousand years ago. The vegetation of the island consisting mainly of prairie grass, palm trees, palms and sea grape cane. 

Its environment consists of interesting reef dive sites and, even more closely, beneath the surface artillery remains from the oldest shipwrecks that occurred in the early days of the colony, can be seen. 

Located in the Catuano channel lying on a blanket reef and has an area of 0.22 squared kilometers, compared to Saona Island, its so tiny that many geographers cannot even draw it the map.  

With a coastline of 2 kilometers long, its beaches dimension go from 880 meters long to 260 wide. There are three major beaches, located in the west, north and east, occupying more than two thirds of its coast.

Catalinita's
 marine environment is characterized by crystal clear waters and rich biodiversity and a background full of sea grass and coral.

Because of its reef environment, the island has many natural dive sites, such as the spectacular wall and the aquarium, possibly the most attractive dive site of the Dominican Republic.
